ARC’TERYX CIERZO PACKS: ALL FOR THE ALPINE

Adding two new Cierzo packs to their line of alpine ascent packs, Arc’teryx is extending its offer for the alpine enthusiast. The Cierzo 18 (375 g) is a packable, superlight summit pack, the Cierzo 28 (550 g) a featherweight single-day pack for alpine, ice and rock climbing. Both packs offer a glove-friendly main opening with a pull-to-open, pull-to-close drawcord system. The adjustable top strop can be used to compress the pack or lash a climbing rope to the exterior of the pack. The smart SwiftCord™ drawstring style compression system is accessed and stored in the pack external front pocket. Dual quick hooks allow for variable configuration of the compression cords. To carry ice tools or other mountaineering gear, the Cierzos have lightweight aluminium bars integrated in the SwiftCord™ system. Thin padded shoulder straps on the Cierzo 18 and padded ones on the Cierzo 28, as well as sternum straps and webbing waistbelt hold the pack comfortably in place. The padded back panel on the Cierzo 28 is removable when not needed and makes this pack almost as packable as his smaller brother Cierzo 18.

ADAPTIVE FIT EVOLVED: ARC’TERYX ARAKYS SHOE

The lightweight Arakys is a truly functional shoe for single pitch outings or monkeying around camp. ARC’TERYX, the technical leader in outdoor performance apparel and equipment expands its award winning footwear collection for Spring 2016 with the addition of the new Arakys shoe. An entirely new footwear platform, the Arakys combines all of the comfort features of a lightweight approach shoe with the inspired design of a technical rock climbing shoe. Using its experience with hybrid construction, the Canadian footwear innovator delivers the first ultralight bouldering and sport climbing approach shoe designed for both indoor and outdoor climbers. More than just an approach or scrambling shoe, the lightweight Arakys is a truly functional shoe for single pitch outings or monkeying around camp. Featuring the latest construction technology called Adaptive Fit Lite, the Arakys softshell uppers combine layers of protection and support on a stretchable liner
thanks to an exclusive lamination process. This allows reduction of overall weight and volume while maintaining a fully adaptive, sock-like fit in key areas of the shoe for perfect zonal fit, increased air permeability, and full debris protection. A true cragging shoe, the Arakys also has a form-fitting collapsible heel that turns the shoe into a comfortable belay slipper. The unique one hand closure and memory buckle allows for fast, efficient shifts from climb to belay, and easy removal altogether.

The leather footbed lends itself to sock-free, barefoot comfort. To develop the specific tread pattern for the Arakys, ARC’TERYX designers worked in collaboration with Vibram® to design soles suited to the specific needs of the shoe – flexible yet stable. The sole of the Arakys comes equipped with Vibram light approach with megagrip compound and features an integrated sticky rubber toe cap for increased grip.
At less than a pound per pair the Arakys delivers maximized comfort, fit and grip for camp bouldering, approaches, scrambles and sport outings.

THE ALPINE SOLUTION: THE NEW ARC’TERYX ACRUX AR GTX ALPINE BOOT

The Arc'teryx Acrux AR GTX Alpine Boot is an insulated double boot for ice, snow, and rock routes. Born in the vertical world, ARC’TERYX, the technical leader in outdoor performance apparel and equipment, is proud to introduce its latest innovation in mountain footwear, the Acrux AR GTX Alpine Boot - one of the lightest, most durable, best fitting, weatherproof alpine boots on the market. Designed specifically for high altitude mountaineers and alpine climbers seeking to climb technical ice, snow, and rock routes in alpine terrain, the Acrux AR GTX Alpine Boot is an insulated double boot featuring an outer shell and liner constructed with GORE-TEX® for unparalleled weather protection and climate management. The result is a boot constructed with the insulation and fast drying performance of double boots, yet with single boot weight, fit and climbing performance. The outer shell of the Acrux AR GTX is rugged, extremely quick drying and abrasion resistant utilizing GORE-TEX® laminated to highly durable TPU films for added protection for crampons. The boot also features a laminated WaterTight™ T-Zip front closure and waterproof gaiter cuff construction to further seal out unwanted moisture from snow and ice, while also remaining breathable.

Delivering unprecedented insulation without sacrificing climbing performance, the Acrux AR GTX Alpine Boot evolves the Arc’teryx Adaptive Fit system with low volume, polyethylene and GORE-TEX® removable liners that allow for warmth and climate adaptability while keeping feet dry in all conditions. The 4mm perforated, preformed
polyethylene liner delivers the highest level of insulation, support, and foothold in the category, while the independent lacing system with velcro strap collar adjustment allow for a fast and efficient fit. The unique midsole construction of the Acrux AR GTX Alpine Boot offers improved durability and technical performance thanks to the fully wrapped technology; a TPU toe and heel counter protect the lightweight EVA midsole. Its full length Carbon fiber insole with an expanded PU foam insert and a high density, lightweight, independent CM molded EVA midsole provides full length rigidity, extra insulation and impact cushioning. The TPU heel counter also provides a safe crampon connection and protection for the crampon buckle while kicking steps in steeper terrain. The VIBRAM® AR OUTSOLE on the Acrux AR GTX Alpine Boot features a semi-blocked toe, with anti-slip grooves for improved toe grip, solid medial climbing support, and a sharp, durable heel brake for descending.
Lightweight , durable and weatherproof yet breathable, the new Acrux AR GTX Alpine boot is designed for those alpinists who push themselves by climbing previously unclimbed or pushing their limits on difficult alpine, ice and mixed terrain.

Fibertec - New PFC-free DWR activating at room temperature

posted Mar 19, 2015, 9:38 AM by GoOut Project   [ updated Mar 19, 2015, 10:44 AM ]

The cool way to do it!

The German company Fibertec takes another giant leap forward in environmentally friendly DWR products for waterproof, breathable clothing: the new GreenGuard RT
does not require heat activation
. Self-activating at room temperature, it saves energy intensive drying cycles. This is both practical and good for the environment. The unique, patented active ingredient is biodegradable (it does not contain PFCs).

GreenGuard RT is bluesign® approved and Made in Germany.

Fibertec aims to produce the most environmentally friendly textile cleaning, care, and waterproofing products possible. Fibertec has achieved a remarkable further development with GreenGuard RT, where RT stands for "room temperature". Room

temperatures are sufficient to activate this new DWR-product, which no
longer requires the use of energy expensive appliances, like a tumble dryer, hair dryer, or iron. The new GreenGuard RT achieves a spray rating (i.e. a measure of water repellency of materials) of 85!

Simultaneously practical and resource-efficient, this is something that we, at Go Out Project, fully support!

The new active ingredient used exclusively by Fibertec is environmentally friendly and not hazardous to health. This water-based, biodegradable product does not use perfluorocarbons (PFCs) but instead uses polyurethane dendrimers. Fibertec managing director Guido Augustiniak explains: "This innovation has given us an excellent alternative to fluorine-based DWR products. In comparison to the currently available GreenGuard, Green Guard RT offers an increased water repellent effect and a higher durability. Regular application greatly prolongs the performance and durability of waterproof, breathable clothing, with a product that can be used with a clean conscience."

Vertics - Forearm Compression Sleeves for Climbing

posted Aug 23, 2014, 3:18 AM by GoOut Project   [ updated Sep 6, 2014, 12:56 AM ]

The new german brand Vertics is now ready to launch compression cuffs for forearms, finally bringing the benefit of compression sleeves also into climbing. Long distance runners know very well what the benefits of compression socks are: increased blood flow velocity helps to keep muscles oxygenated and to reduce aching after running. So the idea of bringing those benefits into climbing sounds like an obvious, logical step: why not helping also climbers to get less pumped? Another great added value of the new product in our view: it's Made in Germany!

Go Out Project is stoked to try out the new climbing compression sleeves! Our climbing team will soon tell us more about the real benefits of compression sleeves in climbing... so stay tuned!

7mesh - A new bike-apparel brand

posted Aug 14, 2014, 2:27 PM by GoOut Project   [ updated Sep 6, 2014, 1:29 AM ]

A new bike-apparel brand debuts this year: 7mesh. Based in Squamish, the outdoor mecca of British Columbia, Canada, 7mesh brings together an experienced team of six industry veterans, including a former CEO of Arc’teryx, with the goal to set new standards in the field of technical cycling garments.

The 7mesh launch collection includes technical outerwear and versatile essentials designed for adventure-focused road and mountain cyclists. Every piece in the collection is designed to be light, durable, and functional, as well as good-looking. 7mesh Spring 2015 styles will be presented at both Eurobike and Interbike.

“7mesh exists to create the kind of cycling apparel we wanted, but
couldn’t find”
said Tyler Jordan, 7mesh Industries President. “There are many passionate riders, like us, who don’t limit themselves to one aspect of the sport. They want the best equipment for all of their adventures - no matter how wide the tires, or how smooth the path.”

...and at Go Out Project we can't wait to take the 7mesh garments out for a spin!

Arc'teryx - Highlights Spring 2015

Arc'teryx Footwear

Starting from Spring 2015 Arc'teryx will introduce shoes and boots!
The new Arc'teryx footwear will have interesting, innovative features
  • removable, stretchable liner utilising Gore-Tex® Performance Comfort™ Stretch Membrane combined with air-permeable EVA foam
  • seamless, fully laminated, and fully hydrophobic outer shell with woven PU coated nylon yarn large insert area on the sides
The Alpha2 FL shoes and the Bora2 MID boots will both have a light, tough, air-permeable TPU-coated Nylon yarn with additional reinforcing TPU films all heat-laminated together, combined with a light EVA mid sole and a Vibram® rubber sole. The fully hydrophobic upper offers extremely quick drying ability and
maximised breathability thanks to the woven PU coated nylon yarn large insert area.

The removable inner boot offers the advantage of improving wash- and dry-ability and can be worn as hut/camp shoe, as well as an outstanding fit. The fully stretchable inner boot is snug and comfortable, as it adapts to each individual fit with the absence of a bulky tongue.

The separate construction of the upper leaves a minute air space between the shell and the liner, acting as a conduit for air exchange and moisture dispersion.

The Vibram® sole has a climbing zone and spherical heel shape for good grip both on ascent and descent.

New Arc'teryx Harnesses

Changes are going on inside of the new generation of Arc'teryx harnesses. The warp yarns are now fixed onto the backing material to prevent them from moving inside of the harness. Reinforced and slightly padded edges are added before the lamination of the harness, offering more comfort and stabilizing the edges of belt and leg loops. The outer material is the sturdy Burly Double Weave.

The women’s harnesses offer slightly changed geometry, with a longer belay loop (+3,5 cm) that matches the higher pelvic and minimizes the tension between leg loops and swami belt.

Black Diamond - Highlights Fall 2014

posted Feb 9, 2014, 4:18 AM by GoOut Project   [ updated Feb 18, 2014, 4:19 AM ]

Among the new Black Diamond products for fall/winter 2014, the most innovative ones will definitely be the avalanche airbag backpacks using the new JetForce inflating system and the new Carbon Megawatt skis, the lightest skis on the market for their size. The Halo 28L JetForce pack and the Carbon Megawatt skis won the prestigious ISPO Award 2014 in the category Ski.

JETFORCE TECHNOLOGY

JetForce is the first Avalanche Airbag Technology to use jet-fan inflation, a breakthrough system that draws air from an unlimited source: the atmosphere. Testable, re-deployable, and travel-friendly, JetForce is the result of a multiyear collaboration between Black Diamond and PIEPS.

JetForce features a number of improvements over existing airbag technologies:
  • JET FAN - Battery-powered jet-fan inflates a 200L airbag in 3.5s followed by tear recovery bursts
  • TRAVEL-FRIENDLY - No travel restrictions
  • MULTIPLE DEPLOYMENTS - Compact, rechargeable Lithium-ion battery supports 4 deployments per charge
  • AUTO SELF-DIAGNOSIS - LED lights indicate system status and PIEPS electronics perform "good-to-go" system check on every startup
  • LARGER AIRBAG - 200L-airbag constructed with high-tenacity, puncture resistant automotive airbag material
  • DEFLATION - 200L-airbag automatically deflates after 3 minutes to create a potential air pocket that can increase the chance of survival in case of complete burial
  • PRACTICE - Airbag is easy to repack for multiple deployments or practice
A snowboard carrying system is present only on the largest model (Saga 40L). The two smaller models (Pilot 11L and Halo 28L) only have ski-carrying systems. Fortunately, PIEPS will produce two packs with the JetForce system also for snowboarders.

CARBON MEGAWATT SKIS

The lightest ski on the market for its size, rockered touring ski designed to blend alpine-inspired performance with backcountry efficiency. Black Diamond's flagship ski designed for those who crave deep, untracked backcountry lines, the redesigned Carbon Megawatt is the ultimate powder touring ski. A new carbon construction means the Megawatt keeps getting lighter (240 grams less per pair than the previous generation) while retaining powerful, hard-charging performance.

Features
  • Floaty 120 mm waist with Rocker tip and Semi-Rocker tail
  • Formula One 3D Light Sandwich with pre-preg carbon construction and paulownia wood core
  • Optimized construction makes it the lightest ski on the market for its size
  • 5 mm beveled ABS sidewall with Power Edges
  • SkinLock tail tabs
Length: 178, 188 cm
Weight:  3.2,  3.4 kg

The North Face - FuseForm Technology

posted Jan 29, 2014, 9:13 AM by GoOut Project   [ updated Feb 18, 2014, 4:14 AM ]

The North Face® launches FuseForm™, a new manufacturing technique that allows two materials to be woven into a single fabric. The new technology has the potential to revolutionize the way clothes are made. Utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques, it is now posible to weave two material properties into a single fabric.

"We're very excited with what we believe is a huge step forward in the innovation of outerwear with FuseForm™", said Vice President Global Product, Joe Vernachio. "This technology allows us to minimize weight while improving durability in high abrasion zones on our winter outerwear."

An industry first, FuseForm™ construction creates garments that are lighter, less bulky, stronger and more durable, and it gives them a clean design, both inside and outside.

In Fall 2014, the Summit Series™ collection (dedicated to alpinists) features the new technology in its Fuse Uno Jacket, which is patterned and constructed from a single piece of HyVent® Alpha 3L fabric. This first-of-its-kind design reduces weight (only 340 g) and bulk while improving performance and durability.

For freeriders, the Fuse Form™ is integrated into the Fall 2014 Steep Series™ collection in the Fuse Brigandine Jacket. This piece utilizes HyVent® Alpha with FuseForm™ construction that seamlessly reinforces high-wear areas including shoulders, sides, and inner arms, critical areas specific to big-mountain riding, without the need for heavier fabrics or additional seams. This construction allows for a lighter, less bulky piece that’s
extremely durable and has a modern design. The Fuse Brigandine Jacket won the ISPO award 2014 in the ski segment.

You've always dreamed about having a kayak, but you never bought one because you wouldn't know where to put it?
The Oru Kayak may help you solve your dilemma!

The Oru Kayak is a foldable, 3.66m-long polyethylene kayak that can be folded into itself forming a 84x74x25 cm case (weighting only about 12 kg), which can be easily carried, stored, or transported.

It's great! You can fit it in the trunk of your car (it fits even into a Smart!) and it's a much more practical luggage than a traditional kayak on a plane! This means that you can bring it with you practically everywhere, and the coolest thing is that you can store it everywhere, even under your bed!
