Windstopper®

  1. Snow- and wind-proof
  2. External fabric
  3. Windstopper® membrane
  4. Inner fabric
Windstopper® fabric is designed to provide windproofness and breathability, keeping you comfortable in a wide range of weather conditions and activities. The windproof membrane stops windchill and protects the warm yet highly sensitive microclimate that surrounds your skin. The 1.4 billion micropores in every square inch of the Windstopper® membrane let water vapor from perspiration escape also when working at high intensity.

How does it work?
The Windstopper® membrane is an ultrathin protective layer, that is laminated to a lightweight textile layer, making it totally windproof. It is made from the versatile polymer PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene) which is expanded to create a microporous structure. These micropores are 900 times larger than water vapor molecules, allowing perspiration to pass through unhindered. This means that the Windstopper® membrane adds total windproofness to any textile without perceivably restricting its initial breathability or weight.

Special Features:
  • Soft, lightweight: provides insulating warmth without added weight
  • Warm, dry insulation: allows perspiration to easily escape keeping you warm and dry from the inside
  • Water resistant: sheds snow and water to protect the insulation.
  • Dries quickly

Windbloc®

Windbloc® by Polartec® offers another solution for wind protection. In this fabric the polyurethane microporous, water-resistent membrane is laminated between two layers of soft fleece. This solution offers the same comfort of a classical fleece, such as its softness and its rapidity to dry, and at the same time it adds extra protection from wind and water. This reduces the weight and number of layers needed to protect and insulate.  The outer fabric is also treated with durable water repellent (DWR).

Wind Pro®

Polartec® Wind Pro® fabrics does not use a laminated membrane and, therefore, are extremely breathable, but still provide 4 times more wind resistance than traditional fleece. This is a sort of new "super fleece" that spans an incredibly wide range of conditions, performs as both outerwear and insulation, and offers exceptional durability. The outer surface features durable water repellent (DWR) treatment which partially protects from water and snow. Since it is not a laminate, Polartec® Wind Pro® is highly breathable, maintaining 85% of the breathability of traditional fleece to keep you from overheating.

Some Polartec® Wind Pro® and Windbloc® fabrics are available in Hardface® version, which is a new "surface-fusion polymer application" that increases abrasion and snag/pick resistance, enhances durable water repellency. This application also creates a smooth surface for easy layering and it helps maintaining a uniform afterwash appearance.
